Life Lately: Adulting 101

08/30/17 | Personal

You might have noticed the silence on the blog over the past two months. While I’ve written some things about my favourite places and experiences in Japan recently, it’s been relatively quiet.

That’s because I’ve been having so much stuff happening in my life outside of the blog

Good stuff though (like seeing the eclipse).

Solar eclipse madness! Seeing it through the glasses (thanks for sharing building neighbour!) was a much cooler experience than the other makeshift viewers I had.

I got a job!

After coming back from my adventure in Japan and South Korea, I started pounding the pavement hard to look for my next job. It wasn’t before long that I was brought on as the Marketing and Community Engagement Lead at Canadian Web Hosting.

Prepping some prizes for a contest we ran.

It was everything I was looking for in a role. It was in the tech industry. I get to run interesting campaigns and it even has a management aspect to it as I lead a small team. My coworkers are great and I have a lot of fun between the work.

I’m really thankful that I was able to secure work relatively quickly. However, I now have to commute. The long days in the office plus hours I spend transiting between home and work quickly add up and I’m always exhausted at the end of the day. I’ll have to figure out how to better organize my time so I can keep up with content here.

Working hard or hardly working? I kid I kid, but we’re big fans of board games at the office.

In my last life update, I shared my engagement story and also mentioned that we were planning on purchasing property together.

With a job secured and the ability to get a mortgage again, we headed out to search for our first home. We were looking passively, just keeping our eye on the market, until we weren’t.

It all happened so quickly, but…

We bought an apartment!

I never realized how stressful it is to purchase property and there are so many things to think about and coordinate between all the various parties. Pulling out all my savings, my multiple visits to the bank, moving large sums of money around. It was such a surreal feeling and my poor brain had such a tough time wrapping itself around those large numbers. It was definitely a huge life lesson. The whole time, I was joking about how I was levelling up my adulting skills, but it really did feel like I was navigating through a video game.

Because we bought a presale that was nearing completion, we had the best of both worlds: a new building, but also the capability to move in soon. And by soon, they meant pretty much 6 weeks after signing the papers.

As I sit writing this today, we’ve been moved into our new apartment for a week. There are still tons of boxes and unpacking to be done and we’ll be slowly furnishing the place over the next couple months. I’m looking forward to adding elements of my travels to the decor. It’s such a cool feeling to know that my name is on the title on this apartment.

I love how we have his and hers sinks now!

Owning property has never been a part of my life plan, but now that it is, I understand why so many people dream of it. That feeling of getting the keys and entering my place for the first time was unreal.

Among all this chaos with in changing my routine, packing up my belongings and arranging all the paperwork for the move and new property, I also was invited to a wedding in India. I think you can guess where this is headed…

I’m going to India!

On Friday. To hang out with these ladies and watch one get married:

#TBT to life in Budapest with these ladies. Can’t believe that in 50 days we’ll be all reunited in the same city in almost 5 years. Let the countdown begin!

Going to India has never been on my bucket list, but now that I’m going anyways for a wedding, I’m going to try and make the most of the long long long flight (we’re talking like 24 hours) and do a little bit of exploring before the big day. I’ll be heading to New Dehli and Agra to see the Taj Mahal before going to Chennai for the wedding and to explore the area. Have you been? Leave me your best tips below!

I’m looking forward to seeing this. Photo: photobom

The past couple months have been stressful and exhilarating at the same time. My life has been turned upside down from all the changes, but in the end, they’ve all worked out in a positive way and I’m excited to see where it’s headed! But first, to plan a wedding.

What’s been going on in your life? Any exciting travel plans? Or if you’ve been to India, I’d love any travel tips you may have!
