Happy new year! 2014 is off to a great start for me and I hope it is the same for you as well. This past month has flown by quickly with me being in Europe the past couple weeks visiting with friends and exploring old haunts. I’ve been having a lot of fun exploring Budapest through the lens of my camera. Now I’m on a ski trip, with less skiing than I anticipated because I’ve managed to aggravate an old knee injury.

Today is also the start of the new lunar year, the year of the horse, and Chinese New Year. Gong hay fat choy if you’re celebrating! 恭喜發財! 新年快樂!

Around Here and Elsewhere

Christmas isn’t over yet it seems – check out this post about Christmas traditions around the world and see if you can spot mine on Hungary. I’ve been featured over at My Travel Affairs in Marysia’s Friday Lens Affair series with my photo taken at the Vancouver Christmas market. Read about my experience adapting as an expat in Hungary over at Chino House. Plus, I contributed to a couple of fun posts on selfies from around the world and the most photo worthy destinations for 2014.

Destination

The Villages Around Lake Atitlán

The guys over at Lunaguava have the art of storytelling down and this post exploring Lake Atitlán is no different. I had never heard of this region previously and now it has been wanting to go explore it.

SoHo Architecture: A New York Neighborhood in Pictures

When I think of New York, this is exactly how I imagine it.

First Time Visitor to Canada eh?

Thinking of visiting Canada? Then check out this post with great tips and ideas for your itinerary. Of course I’m partial to the West coast itinerary, but Canada is a big and beautiful place wherever you end up going.

Journey

Travel Friends Are Like One Night Stands

I’ve never thought of it like that, but it’s so true. You have quick instant friendships, a night or two of adventure and then that’s it. These fleeting friendships generally are just pure moments of fun and enjoyment – the perfect memory if you will. I know I certainly have some with people I met on the road if ever so briefly.

Traveling Solo Can Be a Scary Adventure

Have you traveled solo? Most of the time I have at least one other person, but I have gone on the occasional trip alone. I don’t know what I would have done if this had happened to me.

My Face is on a Restaurant Advertisement in Africa?!

What would you do if your face was used to advertise a restaurant in Africa? Lillie at Around the World “L” discovers just that. I wonder if my image is being used somewhere and I don’t even know it? Hmm…

What inspired you this month to travel?

Wow, thank you for including my SoHo post! It’s a beautiful neighborhood worth even a few minutes to stroll the streets. Just be careful about the boutiques. You might drop a lot of money in those shops.
